Help around the house (x2 volunteers)

Minimum stay of 2 months

We are looking for two volunteers to help us run our coliving space in the French Alps. The house has 3 floors and we are hosting up to 15 people here. We are a mix of a hostel, a flatshare, and a coworking space. People coming here are young professionals, usually between 25 and 45 years old. Most of them work normal office hours and do activities during lunch breaks, evenings, and weekends. You will be sharing responsibilities with the two of us to ensure the smooth running of the place. Your tasks will include: – help around the house – ensuring the common spaces are clean and tidy – solving issues as they arise. We have professional cleaning staff that comes 5 days per week.

The amount of work per day can vary a bit, but it is usually not more than 10h per week. You will be on 4 days and have 3 days off per week. Two of us are also responsible for the house and are very happy to be part of this community so not everything depends on you, you are working in a team. We will shadow you at the beginning to make sure you are doing the tasks we give you as we want, but as soon as things are going right, we’ll give you more space.

What we need from you

  • Fluent English
  • Over 25 years old
  • No more than 10 hours of work per week
  • 4 days on, 3 days off
  • Solo or couple

What you get in exchange

  • Private booth in the volunteer room
  • Being full part of this inspiring community
  • Anything that a normal guest would get
  • Bicycle/Via ferrata at your disposal for free
  • Free laundry

Skills that would be a plus

  • You love mountain activities, and you are ready to lead a group outside for a hike, a via ferrata, a mountain bike trip, organize a camping/barbecue night or just a swim in a close by lake.
  • You have a good eye and love to take pictures/videos and you are active on social medias. We always need fresh content for our Instagram, Facebook, and website.
  • You like to cook, bake, and take care of others.
  • You own a car (and you drive safely).

Side note and contact

This is not a party hostel. This is a working space during the week, and people work in different shifts, so it is important to keep that in mind and try to minimize the noise levels. We have a no loud music policy on weekdays after 10:30pm and 1am on weekends.

Still interested? Send an email to jelena@cloudcitadel.co to introduce yourself/tell us why you would be a good fit for this position, and we will organize a call to discuss with you a potential collaboration.

Meet Maria, one of our volunteer

“My stay at Cloud Citadel has been one of the best experiences of my life. I can’t believe it has been 10 weeks since I arrived here, I guess time does fly by when you’re having fun! In these last weeks I have made friends that I know will last a lifetime, I have climbed, skied, hiked and done a via ferrata for the first time ever (but surely not the last). I have laughed until my tummy hurt, I have eaten more croissants than I can count and discovered what must be one of the most beautiful corners of the world, shielded from reality by the stunning alps.

Jelena and Joé have managed to create a place in which any nomad will feel like at home from the first day. Every single detail in the house has been curated to build a cozy yet eclectic ambience. You’ll struggle to decide whether you like it better indoors or outdoors! Something you’ll notice fast is that it is impossible to get bored in this setting. Every week we all meet for a “family meeting” where we propose and schedule activities for the week. These range from all kinds of outdoor activities to movie nights, spa nights, karaokes, theme parties, skillshares, workshops, masterminds and even a choir!

Now, about my duties as a volunteer. The work became a natural and easy routine very fast, allowing plenty of free time for me to study, socialize and enjoy some time outdoors. My usual day would go like so: after waking up I would go down to the kitchen to prepare the famous ginger tea for the whole household, and sometimes prepare a simple breakfast. The rest of the day was pretty chill. I would tidy up the kitchen after the main meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner). The guests in the house always clean after themselves, so basically I would take care of wiping down the surfaces and placing back some of the items left to dry after being washed. Finally, at the end of the day I took the trash out. Apart from that, on Sundays I would also take care of some laundry.

I had two free days every week, but even on the days I was working I could still manage to join all the planned activities. Jelena and Joé are super understanding and flexible. As long as the work is done and the place looks tidy, you will be able to do pretty much whatever you want! In exchange for your work you’ll get one of the two booths in the volunteer room, where there is also a small sink.

The only thing left to say is thank you. Jelena and Joe have been so nice to me from the beginning, as well as to the rest of their guests, always ensuring everybody is having the best experience possible in the Cloud Citadel. They strive to create more than a beautiful home for their guests by promoting a close community sense. In the Cloud Citadel I found a home and a family. I can’t wait to come back!”
